Claus Gunti (PhD) is an art historian, writer and curator based in Lausanne, Switzerland. He is lecturer at the University of Art and Design Lausanne (ECAL) and coordinator at the Centre de la photographie Genève. His research focusses on the intersection of art and technology and new forms of photographic practices, with a particular interest for the interstice between "reality" and virtual spaces.
Soft Photography is a research project conducted by the Master of Photography at ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne (2025-2027). It aims to shed light on the role of human emotions in the creation and reception of images produced using generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) or computer-generated imagery (CGI). Currently, he is also writing a book on materialized photography for the book series Superscripte.
His book Digital Image Systems came out in 2020, in 2021 he co-published the book Automated Photography with Milo Keller and Florian Amoser, also shown as an exhibition in Europe and Asia. He has written numerous texts on contemporary Swiss artists and photographers, notably for the SIKART dictionary and for numerous photography books and catalogues. Various texts on AI and CGI projects are featured in Foam Magazine #66. Making Light of Every Thing, a show curated with Danaé Panchaud addressing intimacy and image fabrication processes, was on view at Centre de la photographie Genève in Spring 2024.
