Benjamin Füglister is an artist and cultural entrepreneur born in Switzerland in 1978. After completing his studies at the Basel School of Art in Switzerland and the Utrecht School of Art in the Netherlands he has lived in Berlin, Germany. until 2023. In his artistic practice, he questions social conventions and explores their visual transformations. He is particularly interested in photography as a medium for visualising changes in the human image.
Füglister is the director of the CROP UP Festival for photograph-like images. He has been on the editorial staff of European Photography Magazine since 2006. He is the founding director of the CAP Prize, the award for contemporary African photography, which was announced for the first time in 2012. Füglister is a nominator for the prestigious Prix Pictet and sits on the curatorial advisory board of the Photo Basel fair.
He regularly serves as a juror for photography awards such as the Uganda Press Photo Award or the vfg Young Talent Award. As a reviewer at international festivals, such as the European Month of Photography in Vienna, he regularly reviews portfolios and networks artists.
Benjamin Füglister is currently working on the development of the CROP UP Festival for photograph-like images. The CROP UP Festival is a dynamic forum for visual art that unfolds over ten days in art spaces and on the street in Basel. Avant-garde artists from Switzerland and abroad come together to present their photograph-like works.
The festival is a seismograph for the vibrant photography, AI, video & media art scene. It creates a unique platform for innovative and previously lesser-known artistic discoveries in these fields.
