Sarah Girard has been the director of the Biel/Bienne Festival of Photography, a festival of emerging photography that takes place every year in May, since 2018.
She studied art at HEAD in Geneva (BA in 2001) and at Goldsmiths College in London (MA in 2003), art education at Kuverum in Zürich (CAS in 2016) and graduated with an MAS in arts management from the University of Basel (2015).
For more than twenty years Sarah Girard has pursued a career as a photographer, art educator and advisor. From 2015 to 2018, she worked as a cultural advisor for the canton of Geneva and was in charge of creating cultural programmes for the students of all the secondary schools. In 2016, she was in charge of launching "Rose Explose", an innovative arts education platform to accompany Pipilotti Rist’s artwork "Monochrome Rose" in Geneva www.roseexplose.ch and in 2019-2020, she participated in launching two photo awards: L'Enquête photographique Jura bernois in collaboration with forum culture, Mémoires d’Ici and Intervalles: www.enquetephotographique-jurabernois.ch and the Taurus Price for Visual Arts in collaboration with the Taurus Foundation for arts and sciences www.fondation-taurus.ch and Photoforum Pasquart www.photoforumpasquart.ch.
Sarah Girard is an expert in photography for several institutions (Photobasel, the city of Geneva, FFV Stiftung) and in art education for Kuverum. She is also regularly invited as an expert for portfolio reviews and juries.
